Organize your notes, questions and appointment details before your first consultation. A simple Fizyonline guide to getting ready.
It is natural to wonder what will happen at your first physiotherapy appointment. Preparing means organizing what you want to explain and ask, not diagnosing yourself. A short page of notes and a check of the appointment details can help you arrive ready to talk.
Understand the purpose of the first consultation
At the first appointment, the physiotherapist will try to understand your concerns, health history and daily life. Depending on your needs, they may assess areas such as movement, strength or balance and discuss possible approaches with you. The consultation is not identical for everyone. The number of sessions or the appropriate approach cannot be decided with certainty before an assessment.
Prepare brief notes about what you want to say
You could divide one page into three headings: why I am coming, what I find difficult in daily life and what I want to ask. You need not write a detailed medical file. Choose concrete examples you can describe in your own words, such as a task you find difficult, how long this has been happening and why it matters to you.
Put a question mark next to information you cannot remember instead of guessing. If you have previous reports or health records, ask the practitioner which ones are needed. Do not write personal health information in public profile descriptions or review areas.
Check appointment details in advance
- Read the practitioner's name and your chosen service again.
- Check whether the consultation is in person or online.
- Review the date, time, duration and any fee together.
- For an in-person consultation, confirm the address and travel plan.
- Find out whether any special preparation or document is requested.
Allow time in your calendar not only for the appointment but also for getting ready and traveling. If you join from another country, confirm the time zone. If your plans change, review the appointment record and applicable cancellation conditions before the last minute.
Make room for your questions
You might ask which topics will be covered, what follow-up may be suggested after assessment and whom to ask about anything unclear. Prioritizing your questions can help you remember what matters most during a short consultation.
You can repeat advice in your own words and ask whether you understood it correctly. If you wish to take notes, mention it during the consultation. Taking photos or making audio or video recordings requires separate permission; do not start recording automatically.
Your first step on Fizyonline
Browse profiles and services on the Find a Practitioner page; compare the consultation types and available times. Read the details of your selected service once more before booking. You can follow your appointment in My Account. A profile appearing on the platform does not guarantee a particular health outcome.
